HEARTS FOR DANA: A Comedy Benefit Show to raise money to help Dana buy a manual wheelchair.Dana’s story
36 year old Dana Knight was born with Cerebral Palsy.While her physical disabilities limit her, her mental capabilities are endless. Dana is bilingual, graduated with honours from Champlain College, and was a member of the Golden Key Society at Concordia University, where she earned her Certificate in Family Life. Someday, she hopes to complete her Bachelors in Applied Human Science at Concordia University. Upon completion of her degree she would love to get a job in her field of study. While Dana has the minimal basic necessities she needs in life, her quality of life is poor. She is living in an senior living facility in Longueuil, where she has very little interaction with people her own age.
Dana's most pressing need is to replace her manual wheelchair. Dana has an electric wheelchair which she uses within the Centre building. She cannot use this chair outside as her limited sight does not make her "driving" safe. The Regie de l'assurance maladie de Quebec only provides for one chair. The only way they would pay for a second chair is if she were a full time student, which, while she would love to do, she cannot do given the lack of an appropriate manual chair.
