Miss Earth Canada 2013 Sofiya Chorniy bio:
I am a 19 year old student studying Kinesiology, French, and am enrolled in the teacher’s program (Physical Education) at the University of Toronto. I am fluent in English and Ukrainian. I am almost fluent in French (because I am also minoring in French) and have studied it in Quebec, while living in Quebec City.
My goal is to become a French and Physical Education teacher in order to help children succeed in school and in all aspects of their lives.
I have a great passion for health, exercise, and the environment.
Currently I am striving towards completing my EcoMentors certification which will allow me to give presentations to schools about environmental topics and issues.
Having grown up always in a green environment – whether in Ukraine, where my cottage neighbours had cows and chickens, and we had a farm, or in Canada where almost everyday was spent at the park or the sort.
I believe exposure to nature is essential to human health, and for the environment’s health – as developing a bond with something assures that you will be more likely to protect it.
Lifelong learning benefits everyone – and the time to learn about and act on environmental information is now!
